At a trade show you talk to dozens of people in a few hours. If you write down each contact by hand, you lose time in the aisle and details along the way. Lead Scanner lets you save each contact in seconds and get back to the conversation.
It is the DataOrigin mobile app for capturing contacts at trade shows and professional events. It is free and works with your DataOrigin account.
What it does
- Scans the badge or business card with the camera and extracts the name, job title, company and contact details.
- Saves each contact linked to the trade show where you met them, so you know later where it came from.
- Lets you export the contacts when the show ends and move them to your working tool.
- Works with your DataOrigin account, the same one you use on the web platform.
How to use it at a trade show
- Download the app and sign in with your DataOrigin account. If you do not have one, you create it for free.
- Pick the trade show you are at.
- Point the camera at the badge or card. Check the details and save.
- At the end of the day, export the contacts and plan the follow-up.
Your contacts stay on your phone
The contacts you scan are stored only on your phone. DataOrigin does not receive them and keeps no copy. In return, the app sends anonymous usage counters linked to your account: how many times you open it, how many scans and exports you make and the trade show name. They do not include data about the people you scan.
The app asks for camera and microphone permission and you can withdraw them at any time. Firebase analytics and crash reports are switched on only if you give your consent. You can read every detail in the privacy policy and, if you want to close your account, on the page to delete your account.
After the show
Scanning is the first step. To decide whom to call first, match your contacts against the show’s company list in DataOrigin and work out the return of the event with the trade show ROI calculator.
